Ashes of Treasures
3 Glass Cylinders
4 inches diameter (12, 20, 28 inches) high
Partially filled with ashes and remnants of burned books.
Within these three cylinders lies one kilogram of ashes the remains of incinerated books, carefully gathered from the ruins of the College of Fine Arts library in Baghdad. These ashes are not just remnants; they are silent witnesses to a lost archive of knowledge, reduced to dust in an act of destruction.
Just as some preserve the ashes of their loved ones in remembrance, I find myself guarding the remnants of these books with a similar sentiment. Yet, they are not merely charred pages, they are treasures of knowledge, a looted memory, an intellectual heritage reduced to dust. And though silenced, they still bear witness to what was lost.
